The rules

As the game plays them, word for word from the rule book that is a click away in the game's menu and in the middle of any match.

The rack and the break

  • All fifteen balls are racked in a triangle in no particular order. The breaker places the cue ball anywhere behind the head string.
  • The break is an ordinary shot: there is no special requirement, and balls potted on it score.

Scoring

  • Every ball potted on a legal shot scores one point, whichever ball and whichever pocket. Shots are not called.
  • Pot a ball and you stay at the table; pot nothing and the turn passes.
  • The first player to 30 points wins.

A legal shot

  • The cue ball must hit a ball, and then a ball must be potted or some ball must reach a cushion.

The re-rack

  • When one ball is left on the table, the other fourteen are racked again with the front place of the triangle left empty, and play carries on: the idea is to pot the last ball and break the new rack open with the same shot.
  • If that last ball is lying where the rack goes, it is moved to the head spot. If the cue ball is lying there, the player takes it in hand behind the head string.
  • Scores carry on through every re-rack.

Fouls

  • Potting the cue ball or sending it off the table; hitting nothing; no ball potted and no ball to a cushion after the hit; driving a ball off the table.
  • A foul costs one point (a score can go below zero) and ends the turn. Balls potted on the foul shot go back on the table and do not score.
  • After the cue ball is potted or leaves the table, the other player has it in hand behind the head string. After any other foul it is played from where it lies.
